Most Conservative pundits would have you believe that in the fight to save America from immanent doom, the Leftists must be defeated. They are incorrect.
America’s problems come from a flaw in the US Constitution. The Constitution is a set of written laws meant to ensure that goverment follows well considered and good principles of government. As long as the laws are followed, the nation will prosper. If the laws are not followed, the nation will descend into misery and eventually collapse.
The Framers wrote the Constitution with the assumption that the citizens are essentially good and “virtuous,” and they would choose the wisest from their ranks to represent them. We do not. We select those who we thiink would do the best job at bringing home the pork, and those folks tend to be the biggest and best thieves. Look at the folks representing us in Congress and the White House today. Are they really the wisest among us, or are they a bunch of damned crooks?
The Framers wrote the Constitution with the assumption that the balance of powers would bring about enforcement of the laws that make up the Constitution. Obvious, that balance of powers thingy isn’t working out too well. A lot, I would guess about 90%, of the US government is outside the scope of the Constitution. It is illegal in other words. The laws that form the Constitution are clearly not enforced.
Without the rule of law we are a Representative Democracy, not a Constitutional Republic. A Representative Democracy is a form of government in which the citizens vote democratically through a proxy. They choose as their representative someone who would most likely vote as the majority would. It is a form of Democracy with all of its well known flaws, and more. The representatives in a Representative Democracy besides representing the will of the voters also caters to the wealthy. The representatives take bribes in other words. The phrase “cronie capitalism” applies here. A Representative Democracy could also be called a “Bribe-ocracy.” A Democracy is a form of republic because its source of authority lies in its citizens.
A Constitutional Republic on the other hand vests its powers in the population, always in some form of Democracy, and it limits and prescribes government powers according to a written document. A Constitutional Republic is not necessarily good. Its laws must be based on effective and good principles of government. It must keep to the narrow path of rationality and morality; “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God” in other words. Without the limits found in a rational and moral Constitution a Republic is simply another form of Democracy. And like all Democracies its destiny is corruption and collapse.
Victory in America is not about beating the Leftists. They are the symptom, not the disease. Leftism is an opportunistic parasite that must be addressed, true. But the disease itself is simply the lack of enforcement of the laws that make up the Constitution. To cure the disease of a limpid Constitution active enforcement must be brought to the Constitution, and it must be enforced it with a group of rational and moral people working from a properly constructed office.
That is how to define victory in the fight to save America: We will have won when a group of rational and moral people are actively enforcing the laws that form the Constitution on the officers in government.
And, no, don’t even start to think it. The collective citizens in a Democracy have never been, are not now, and never will be a group of rational and moral people.
Stumble it!
