Some of the legislation coming from the socialists in Washington, DC, has me wondering. Some of the bills apply taxes for such things as the socialized medicine bill. The Americans for Tax Reform web site gives one example. Here is a page that documents the taxes in the Senate version of the criminal and immoral socialized medicine bill. It describes something I’ve seen before:
Individual Mandate Tax (Page 324/Sec. 1501/$15 bil/Jan 2014): Starting in 2014, anyone not buying “qualifying” health insurance must pay an income surtax according to the higher of the following (page 71 of manager’s amendment updates Reid bill):
| Single | 2 People | 3+ People | |
| 2014 | $495/0.5% AGI | $990/0.5% AGI | $1485/0.5%/AGI |
| 2015 | $495/1.0% AGI | $990/1.0% AGI | $1485/1.0%/AGI |
| 2016+ | $495/2.0% AGI | $990/2.0% AGI | $1485/2.0%/AGI |
Exemptions for religious objectors, undocumented immigrants, prisoners, those earning less than the poverty line, members of Indian tribes, and hardship cases (determined by HHS).
This kind of thing makes me wonder. Would a Deist church have religious objections to these kinds of taxes? I have to think this one over. This kind of law is clearly immoral. Would it a tennent of Jeffersonian Deism that government dictated insurance is evil?
Hmmm…
We know what Jefferson would say about this in a political context. The rolling over he’s doing in his grave now would more than qualify him for a spot on the US gymnastics in the Olympics. But what would Jefferson say about this in a spiritual context? I have to think about this.
And what is that “undocumented immigrants” thing? Those aren’t immigrants. Those are illegal aliens. The current government is so completely screwed up at this point in time that it doesn’t understand the difference between an immigrant and an illegal alien.
Stumble it!
