I was digging through some old letters and photos from my grandmother a while back. My father-in-law, Bill, was helping.  We came across gramma’s old college degree in education.  All of a sudden he jumps up in surprise and says, “She was a Vandal!” 

That made no sense to me.  I asked him what he meant. 

He explained that gramma’s old school as shown on her degree was the University of Idaho.  Bill attended the U of I too.  The Vandals are the mascot of the U of I.  Both Bill and gramma were Vandals.

Eventually I learned that Sarah Palin is a Vandal too.

Gramma studied education.  What was the main thing she taught, the thing she was most proud of?  Girls high school basketball.  She taught basketball in the 1950’s, so there is no chance she ever met Sarah.  But I am proud to say that I have that connection.
