I’ve heard a lot of bad things about Rahm Emanuel, but I never looked into the guy to hear what he had to say.
This is from The plan: big ideas for America. Page 61.
by Rahm Emanuel and Bruce Reed, Public Affairs, (C) 2006. You can read some excerpts here.
We have no problem with spying on terrorists, here or elsewhere. Indeed, as we’ll explain later, we believe the U.S. should strengthen its domestic counterterrorism capacity in a way that also safeguards our freedoms.
Our problem with the Patriot Act is simpler: It doesn’t have much to do with patriotism. We want the government to be aggressive in protecting us from terrorists. But we want a government that’s just as serious about challenging us as citizens. Americans’ role in the war on terror is not simply to be waving flags on the sidelines.
It’s time for a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us. We propose universal civilian service for every young American. Under this plan, all Americans between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five will be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic training, civil defense preparation, and community service.
This is not a draft. We repeat: This is not a draft.
PSY-CHO!!! This is a draft. I repeat: This is a draft. This is a draft to send young adults to “patriotism” training camps. What does mandatory community service have to do with preventing terrorism? Not a damn thing.
And oh yeah, protecting the country from terrorists is patriotic. What’s wrong with this guy?!
“Americans’ role in the war on terror is not simply to be waving flags on the sidelines.” My God, this guy claims that all we’ve been doing since 9-11 is waving the flag. He’s nuts.
The problem with the above excerpt is not just the idea that they want to send all young adults to “patriotism” training camps, the problem is that they lie point blank and without conscience. They are messing with us big time. The desire to usurp our rights, along with the blatant anti-American lies demonstrates how dangerous these guys are.
This kooky immoral mentality is what’s behind the H.R. 1388 – “Sen. Ted Kennedy Serve America Act” and H.R. 1444 – “Congressional Commission on Civic Service Act.” H.R. 1388 passed in April of this year and is now law.
This is scary stuff. Really scary stuff. People believe that Nazi Germany can’t happen here in the good old USA. This guy is a Nazi in everything but name, and as Obama’s Chief of Staff he is one of the most powerful people in Washington. It is happening here and it is happening now. You are not imagining it.
You can’t send free people to mandatory “patriotism” training camps. In a free nation you can’t do that to people. That’s a very evil thing to do. In these guys’ world freedom is slavery and slavery is freedom. They really think that way.
God help us.
Stumble it!

You are correct that this is a very big deal. In many ways, the idea of mandatory national service is more important than any of the other policies of the Obama administration, because if they are successful in establishing this, then they will have achieved ownership over the lives of every American citizen. I have been opposing this a vigorously as I can, and you might be interested in taking a look at my website which goes into great detail regarding this issue, and is recruiting people to sign a "Personal Declaration of Independence" demanding the government honor our autonomy and restore our lost constitutional rights. Check it out and let me know what you think.

I read some of your site. Honestly, I don't see how signing a statement will create the kind of change that is needed.
The polls are where change will happen, so I put my efforts into that.
In the meanwhile I'm interested in clarifying the deistic philosophy behind the Declaration of Independence as a religious ideal. As that becomes more clear I can state that ideal as my ideal. According to those religious beliefs I cannot accommodate certain actions of the current government because of my faith.
My equivalent to salvation is my independence.
Your signature document is weak compared to that. If you would like, you can consider yourself a member of my faith and then your beliefs will have the strength of law behind them because in the US, for now at least, the government respects the faith of individuals. Something to think about…
At this moment I'm considering whether I want to work with the American Unitarians to start a branch that focuses on American Deism.
