The 2008 Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, H.R.4040, has given the Consumer Product Safety Commission the right to apply ridiculously large fines, up to $15,000,000 for selling certain used toys at garage sales Fox News points out.  The new government regulations cover used toys and other items that meet certain conditions.

Fortunately for garage salers the CPSC provides a write-up that garage salers can read before holding their next garage sale.  The 24-page Handbook for Product Retail Stores and Product Resellers is available here.  The handbook is a general overview of what the garage salers need to know.  It contains links to other government web sites so that garage salers can download other documentation containing the specifics of the what garage salers really need to know before holding their garage sale.

Again, the tentacles of federal government have overreached.

Stumble it!
