I just found this:

I kind of like these guys. They come closer to what I believe in than any other group I’ve come across.  Jefferson predicted that one day American would be a Unitarian nation.

In the 1960′s I believe it was, the Unitarians merged with the Universalists and formed the Unitarian Universalist church.  This almost killed off the Unitarian church.  The merge seemed like a good idea at the time, but what ended up happening was that the UU church changed the direction of the faith from a very reason-based approach to faith to a very politically liberal approach.

In 2000 the Unitarians began reorganizing as their own churches again, as the American Unitarian Association.  Not surprisingly, the very politically liberal UU church was intolerant of the AU group following their own beliefs and fought to prevent the AU seperatation by filing suit over the American Unitarian Association name.  The AU group fought the UU suit, but found that whether they were right or wrong the costs of fighting were too high, so they resolved the issue by using the name American Unitarian Conference.  They are returning to their own traditions which encompass a rational basis of faith.  I’m glad to see that.  It’s too bad there isn’t an AUC church in my neighborhood, because I would certainly attend.

I predict that the American Unitarian church will become one of the fastest growing churches in the US in the coming years.

Stumble it!
