I really liked the idea for using the D from the Declaration of Independence as a symbol for Deism. I thought I could improve on it though. I was inspired by the Orange County Choppers show, and by my neighbor, a retired guy who has been building custom street rods since he was a kid. I chopped the D I had selected in an earlier post and set it on fire.

It looks a little abstract. To put it into context, here is how it would appear in a word:

I’m working on a little post for the meaning of American Deism as it is found in the Declaration of Independence and how it applies to Conservativism.
UPDATE:
I give permission to everyone to use this “flaming D” symbol as a symbol for Deism. You may copy it from this page and modify it. Or you may create a new version from scratch.
Stumble it!

Thank you for permission to use the "flaming D"…I hope to adapt it a Unified Deism project a number of Deist Alliance members are working on. This is just great! Thanks, again….
can i use it for a tattoo?
Of course. I'd love to see a photo of it.
I have also been thinking about this for a while, and I agree, this is the best symbol!
I recognize some of you… But,
Please Join us on Facebook in the "Deism" group. (it's not my group, but I like it)
I would love to help you guys in any way I can.
Thanks
DougTheDeist…
I have just submitted this "D" as the new profile picture for the "Deism" Group on facebook… It's up to Ryan….
Thanks.
It has potential as a tattoo and logo. Full black (like a tribal design) would work well. One would need to thicken the top and bottom horizontals and lengthen the upward sweeps (serifs). This would also aide it in looking like a flame of knowledge and/or enlightenment, which only deepens the original intent. The idea that it originated from Jefferson's "D" on the Declaration also lends itself to the idea of independent and free thinking. I'll see what I can do about the tattoo inked. Big question for me would be the location. Such a symbol would have only three relevent choices, in my view, due to the significance and its shape: Pectoral region, Right Shoulder or inner forearm (either R or L). Anything else would seem to demean the symbol. A tribal, floral or jungle background or embelishment would set off the shoulder or pec, but a solo design could certainly fly as well. I've already turned it into a black and white and sharpened the edges so my tattoo artiist can play with it. There goes another $300!
Cool.
Send a pic or a link. I'd love to publish it. Contact info is at the bottom of my About page or just drop a link here.
Is this the World Union of Deist? I am on that facebook sight….if there are others, please send let me know!
Thanks
I'm using the "flaming D" symbol on my website, as well as the Phi symbol suggested at Deism Today (I don't know if it was suggested elsewhere beforehand… I just found it at the Deism Today blog: http://deismtoday.blogspot.com/. I hope you don't mind, but I'm also using the "Deus" image on my site. If you would rather I didn't, please let me know and I'll remove it right away.

Of course you can use it. I retain ownership of the design just to keep other people from claiming ownership and control of the symbol. Typically that happens for profiteering reasons. I intend for it to be available to the public domain, just like the smiley face.
Most of the people coming to the Amorian.org website come here searching for a symbol for Deism. The "D" flame was created for anyone to use.
I like your site, but you haven't been posting much. What's up with that?
