After searching for a long time for the perfect symbol for American Deism, I finally found it. After bouncing the idea of other folks, I’ve pretty much settled on just using the letter D. This D is part of something sacred that millions have died for, and it is still worth dying for. You’ve seen it hundreds, maybe thousands of times before. Where does it come from and what does it mean?

Spoiler: The answer is in the comments below.
UPDATE:
After trying on a lot of different symbols representing Deism, I finally settled on the “flaming D” you see on the top left of this page. (It fits in a smaller space and flames seems to be an almost universal symbol for God.) For more info see: <http://www.amorian.org/2009/07/30/new-and-improved-deism-symbol/>

I “get” why you chose this symbol, and I know you’ve tossed it around for a while.
Are you sure a symbol that mixes nationalism, politics, and religious philosophy is the way you want to go? Personally, I’ve never considered it prudent to combine them.
But then again, I noticed you added a lot of political elements to your site.

So thoughtful…!!
I think that this as a symbol for Deism is an excellent choice. Sure it may have strong political tones but to look back at why Deism is so ingrained in what was set forth in our nation by the Founding Fathers and to look at the philosophy of Deism it becomes clear why this symbol is a great choice.
I liked the idea of the “D” from the declaration so much that I got it tattooed, along with the words “Question Authority”. So much depth of meaning.
Seriously? Send me a photo of your tattoo and I’ll publish it here if you really did it.
