Building BlocksAs I put together my religious ideas for my ideal church, the natural church, I find that I have most of what I need.

The religious foundation is Deism–an organizational acceptance of God, but not divine revelation.

In the natural church the moral foundation is love moderated by ethics–do no harm to others, in the small things and the large things, except as needed to take care of yourself and your loved ones.  Morality is to human society what gravity is to large objects.

Morality is what holds groups together.  That is its social purpose.  Natural morality is based on love.  Love is one’s emotional attachment to one’s self and to others.  Love is the glue that holds societies together.  Socially harmful acts are acts that lead to problems in the attachments between the members of the group.  Some acts done out of love cause harm, so love must be moderated by ethics.

In the natural church natural law is God’s law.  Natural law is connected to natural rights–life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  Our natural rights helps define our imperative.  The church would be about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Life.  The church should support the everyday living of its members.  This means helping take care of families.  Life is about staying alive and taking care of necessities such as diet and exercise, as well as social needs.

Liberty.  The church should actively protect individual freedoms.  It’s role should be to teach the ideals of natural philosophy so that people understand natural philosophy, natural law, natural rights, and natural morality.  The church should be a place where people with a non-theistic faith in God can meet for worship and the social benefits of the church organization.  Theists have their own churches.

The pursuit of happiness.  The church should support a better quality of life for its members.

There are numerous social organizations that support the pursuit of happiness.  What makes the natural church different from those organizations is that it is guided by a religious and moral philosophy.  It exists primarily for the benefit of its families and individuals.  Its focus is to provide a moral foundation for its members, especially for kids.  It also fulfills the roles of traditional (Christian-type) churches.  It is a social organization.  It is a place for wedding and funeral services.  And Christmas bazaars.
