I cleared out my old blog. It was supposed to be a murder mystery fiction kind of blog. The idea was good, but finding the time to create an interesting story with multiple characters and credible sounding events took more time and effort than I had. One of the things I was trying to do was to use a story as a platform for discussing ideas. Since I didn’t have the time to write a story I have to simplify things a bit.

I’ll be writing about relationships as spirituality, and about the American mythos.

Mythos is how we view the functioning of the universe. For example fundamentalist Christians see the world as being created by God on seven days, and they see God as being fully involved in everyday life. That is mythos. Rationalists see the universe as natural. There are no unexplainable events outside of nature. That is mythos too.

Americans in general have a mythos that is founded in love, rationality, spirituality. After scouring the Internet I found that there was no name for this mythos.  I will call it Amorian, meaning "of love."  "Amorian" also sounds a bit like "American." This is the common faith of the people in the U.S.  A lot of people in the U.S. don’t attend church or practice a formal religion, yet we do still practice a form of faith. We believe that in the natural universe natural truth comes before supernatural truth. If science proves that something is true, and that something contradicts a long held religious belief, we accept the scientific truth and rationalize the religious truth.

We believe in love, and we believe that our relationships to others are the most important things we have. We base our choice of spouse on love. To most of us, love is a magic power. Even the Christian faiths are defined by their perception of God’s love which is the most powerful and magical form of love.

This Amorian faith I’m writing about is not a theory or ideology or philosophy. It is what I see around me every day.
